La Sexta's Javier Ruiz Joins New TDT Channel As Anchor and Editorial Director

Javier Ruiz, the current presenter of Mañaneros 360 on La 1, is set to join the newly launched TDT channel La Séptima as a key anchor and editorial director, according to multiple sources.

Ruiz's Move Leaves Uncertainty at TVE

Ruiz's departure from TVE raises questions about the future of the Mañaneros 360 program, which he co-hosted with Adela González since 2024. The show has been a success, consistently topping ratings in its time slot against rival morning programs from private networks like Cuatro, Antena 3, and Telecinco.

Before joining TVE, Ruiz worked alongside José Miguel Contreras at Cadena SER and was involved in a failed project with PRISA to launch a new television venture. Contreras, the founder of La Sexta and an experienced media entrepreneur, has confirmed that Ruiz will be one of the faces of La Séptima, both on-air and in an executive capacity.

Other names rumored to be in the running for roles at La Séptima include Silvia Intxaurrondo, who has been at odds with RTVE over her contract, and Àngels Barceló, the former director of Hoy por Hoy at Cadena SER. Contreras has hinted that only one of these three is a sure bet, with the others being possibilities or hopefuls.

La Séptima is set to debut on November 5, marking the first new national television channel to launch in open air in nearly 20 years. The channel's programming strategy will focus on breaking from traditional news formats, instead emphasizing live coverage and direct reporting. With an initial investment of €20-25 million, La Séptima aims to compete with established networks like Cuatro and La Sexta and reach an audience share of around 4%.
