Flip to Shhh Not Working on Pixel Phones: Here's a Fix
Almost every Android OEM offers a unique set of capabilities. Samsung, for example, has Edge Panels in Galaxy smartphones that provide quick access to frequently used applications. Similarly, Google Pixel phones boast a handy feature called Flip to Shhh.
The Flip to Shhh Issue
However, some Pixel users have recently reported that this useful gesture is malfunctioning on their devices. Even more concerning, some users have found the feature completely missing from the Settings menu. Fortunately, a potential solution appears to be bringing Flip to Shhh back on track.
What is Flip to Shhh?
Flip to Shhh is a Pixel-exclusive gesture that I personally find incredibly useful. Introduced way back in 2018 with the Pixel 3, it allows you to instantly put your device into Do Not Disturb (DND) mode. Once enabled via the settings menu toggle, your Pixel phone automatically enters DND mode when placed face down. I frequently use it when I want to avoid interruptions from calls and notifications during conversations or important meetings.
Many users, however, are reporting that the feature is no longer working as intended. Online reports suggest that the phone fails to enter DND mode when placed face down, even when the Flip to Shhh gesture is enabled. One affected user shared on Reddit that after the feature stopped working, they attempted to disable and re-enable it. Instead, they received a pop-up message stating, "Can't turn on Flip to Shhh." They tried various troubleshooting steps, including rebooting the device, clearing the cache and data, but none restored the functionality of the Flip to Shhh gesture.
The Disappearing Option
Adding to the confusion, some users are reporting that the Flip to Shhh option has vanished entirely from their Settings menu. One user noted that after trying all possible solutions, they discovered that Flip to Shhh was simply missing. Related posts and comments suggest that this disappearance often occurs after clearing the app's data or uninstalling and reinstalling updates.
The issue appears to be affecting a wide range of Pixel models.
