The Google Tasks app is receiving an update that introduces a highly anticipated feature: a dedicated search bar. According to Android Authority, version 2026.08.24.96 of the app includes a visual cue – a search icon – within the search bar itself, with a hint text reading ‘Search tasks.’

For a long time, Google Tasks users have expressed a desire for a robust search functionality, a feature already available in competing task management apps. This update suggests Google is finally addressing this feedback and integrating a dedicated search bar directly into the app’s interface.

The Google Tasks app allows users to manage upcoming tasks, create tasks with subtasks to break down larger projects, and set due dates that automatically sync with Google Calendar. Users can also create multiple lists to categorize tasks – for example, ‘work errands,’ ‘personal errands,’ or ‘special projects.’ Integration with Google Workspace provides access and management of tasks from Gmail, Google Calendar, Chat, and Docs, and even allows task creation directly from emails.

A key benefit of the app is its seamless synchronization across devices. As long as users are logged into the same Google Account and the Tasks app is installed, tasks automatically sync across all connected devices, ensuring timely notifications regardless of the device in use.

Last year, Google initiated a significant shift, migrating reminders from the Google Keep app to Google Tasks. All reminders with set times or dates within Keep were automatically saved as tasks, and Google Keep no longer sends reminder notifications. Instead, scheduled tasks and migrated reminders are now delivered via push notifications from the Google Tasks and Google Calendar apps.

This update marks a notable step towards solidifying Google Tasks’ role as the central hub for ‘to-dos’ within the broader Google ecosystem, offering a more streamlined and user-friendly task management experience.
